Carols by Candle Light

Third Wednesday in December every year

6:00pm to 7pm

For more than 40 years, Tatura Lions have been running Carols by Candle Light for the Tatura community at Mactier Gardens, Hogan Street, Tatura.

We are assisted by  local singers, bands from Shepparton, Choirs and bands from Tatura Primary School and Sacred Heart Primary School, and the local CFA.

We run our BBQ selling sausages, and also sell battery operated candles. Gelati and coffee will be available for sale.

It is a pleasant evenings entertainment.

In 2020 and 2021 the format changed because of Covid 19 restrictions - we paraded around the streets of Tatura with singers and recorded songs.

Carols December 2022

The morning of the Carols event was cold and blustery. The forecast was for the weather to continue the same through the day. Mid morning we decided to move the event to Victory Hall to avoid the worst of the weather. We posted signs about the venue change at Mactier Gardens and on both of the local Tatura face book pages as well as advising the entertainers and the schools.

We advised the seller of Ice-cream who elected not to attend.

Our BBQ was set up in the driveway on the side of Victory Hall and the public address system was set up in the hall.

Attendance at the event was great.

We sold lots of sausages and drinks as well as almost all of the candles that we had.

The school band from Tatura Primary School opened the entertainment with a great performance. We had great performances from Sacred Heart students, Turaton, Shepparton Brass Band, individual singers, and Goulburn Valley Pipes and Drums. Many thanks to all of our performers.

The change of venue increased our costs due to venue hire. We reduced our expenditure a little by using fewer entertainers. Our income was less than budgeted because the City of Greater Shepparton were unable to give us the full amount of the grant we sought, and our sales of drinks were not as high as budgeted. By dipping into Lions Clubs funds we were still able to make a donation of $600 to Vision Australia.
